#EnzoaniRealBride: Kirsty + David

The Roarin' 20's!

Ah, the roarin' twenties! What a time to be alive. Kirsty and David tie the knot on New Year's Eve with a 1920's theme. As the clock strikes 12, they share their kiss as newlyweds. We're loving the vintage vibes and art deco in this wedding. Get ready to enter a party that rivals Gatsby's.

David and I first met 15 years ago when I was finishing college and he had recently moved back home from university.

Our first date was at Le Talbooth (a swanky restaurant near where we live). I was so touched by how much he was trying to impress me. It sounds cheesy, but I knew there and then that he was the man I was going to marry. I have never met a kinder, more considerate or generous person.

Our second date was a trip to the zoo where we bonded over our love of big cats. We moved in together four months later with our two ‘fur babies’ as we nicknamed our cats. I think we both just knew it was meant to be. It has been amazing to grow together and share our lives from such a young age.

David asked me to marry him the day before my 21st birthday, which came as a total shock, but the best surprise ever! We had just bought our first house and were walking home from a celebratory dinner when he proposed. It was the perfect summer's evening with the sun shining and swans swimming along the waterfront. We were travelling to Scotland the next day, so it was the best start to our holiday I could have hoped for.

Fast forward to 2013, we welcomed our amazing son Christian to the world, followed by our beautiful baby girl Sienna in 2017.

The Wedding:

As soon as we saw our venue Greyfriars, we fell in love with its glamorous Art Deco style and instantly decided on our theme.

We broke from tradition in many ways with our day, but we absolutely loved every second of it! It was exactly what we wanted, and our guests have told us how much they enjoyed themselves and that they too loved sharing our day with us ❤️

There are so many amazing memories from our day, but as we married on New Year’s Eve, one of my most memorable moments was definitely when the clock struck midnight for the New Year. The confetti cannons fired, and I realized I was standing in a room with everyone we love and care about welcoming in another year married. It really was the most magical, priceless moment! Glasses of champagne were handed round to all of our guests who raised a toast to us and the New Year before the celebrations continued well into the early hours!

Seeing our little boy ‘fly’ has to be one too! Our magician had done a 1920s saloon-style show in one of the bars to entertain our guests while the restaurant was transformed to a dance floor. The finale to the show was levitating our son in the air. It was just incredible and needed to be seen to be believed! Luckily we have it on camera! He was absolutely the star of the show!

We had several cocktail-making stations set up, as well as ‘his & her choice’ cocktails as arrival drinks for our guests. Cocktails and canapés then flowed for the duration!

As huge cake lovers, we couldn’t decide on a ‘traditional’ wedding cake, so we decided to design and make our own ‘pop-up patisserie’ instead. We stocked it with lots of different mini cakes and sweet treats so our guests could join us in trying all of our favorites! This included a birthday cake for our daughter Sienna who had turned one just days earlier.

We had a caricaturist in the evening, and have loved having a giggle when we have since been invited to our guests' houses and seen theirs. It has been wonderful to see so many hanging on the walls!

Our guests loved the entertainment value it added and were blown away that we had literally made our own cake shop! They still talk about it now!

My bridesmaids were given the brief ‘rose gold and glam’ and told to pick what they look and feel great in, and wow, they delivered! The rest of our guests were invited to join us in optional black tie, and we were absolutely blown away by the effort everyone had made and how amazing they all looked!

Advice to other brides?

Don’t be afraid to shy away from tradition and ‘think outside the box.’ If it’s what makes you happy, go for it!

Don’t be scared to DIY! We made all of our venue decorations ourselves. We went for walks together to our local woods to collect fallen tree branches for our table centerpieces. The day before, we spent time together spraying them gold and decorating with flowers.

Over the Christmas holidays, we hand-made crackers as favors with personalized New Year’s Eve fortune cookies inside for our guests.

I love that everything there was so personal to us and had meaning. Although the lead up can be stressful at times, I think it’s so important to try and enjoy it. It’s lovely that we not only have amazing memories of our day but from all the preparation together too.

I first saw the ‘Leonie’ dress on the Enzoani website, and it was love at first sight! I knew that I wanted a glamorous dress that would fit our 1920’s theme, and the feathers immediately caught my eye. It was very clearly meant to be when I found out my local stockist Mili Mili had the dress in store for a limited time. It had been borrowed by the shop as a sample loan, and it felt like fate that I could try it on!

Standing in the changing room, I knew it was the one before I had even seen myself in the mirror. There was just something about how it made me feel. I had already tried on several dresses elsewhere, but as soon as I walked out and saw my friends and family's reaction, I knew this was it. With every other dress I had tried on, I felt there was a compromise, but the ‘Leonie’ had it all and more! Not only was my dress different from everything else I had tried, but it made me feel so special.

I had chosen several other dresses to try at Mili Mili, but the search ended immediately there and then! I spent the rest of my appointment dreaming of the big day and how perfect my dress would be.
