Karly’s Corner - All About the Appointment!

You've seen her before on our IGTV and our Real Bride by Enzoani series on YouTube, and now she's back! Enzoani Brand Ambassador Karly Komoroske from Blush Bridal Couture in Tustin, California teams up with us here to answer our brides' frequently asked questions during these crazy times. We want to help put your minds at ease!

This might be your first time in a bridal salon. Or maybe you've visited because your BFF or sister was getting married. But did you ever wonder...

"What should I bring to my appointment?"

"How long will this appointment be?"

How many dresses will I get to try on?"

"What IS an appointment like as a bride?"

Karly has the answers for you -- read on!

Let's talk appointments!

Karly: "With the amount of downtime, now is probably a good idea to start putting your Pinterest board together, gathering posts on Instagram, tagging your friends in dresses you want, and more! Maybe you like the lace of this dress, or you want this size train, or maybe you're looking for this or that. It's the perfect time to see what you really love on a gown.

This is good practice, as when you start shopping in stores, you can show your consultant pieces of things you like from different gowns, or just gowns you really love!"

But, maybe while you were searching...

You. Found. It.

What happens if you've already found "The One" before you've tried anything on?

Karly: "You found, the “~ crème de la crème ~” wedding dress for you, and you are so obsessed and so focused on it... YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS DRESS. Even if you try on other dresses that you really love, you know you won’t be able to commit to anything until you try on this dress. So, a big thing you want to do here before you start shopping is to find out who has that dress.

First things first -- find out the style name or number. After finding the style name or number, you need to find the designer. Designers will typically list stores that carry their dresses. That does not necessarily mean that they have that specific style. The best thing to do is reach out and vet each store individually: “Hey, I’m looking for Maya by Enzoani. Oh, you don’t have it? Okay.” Repeat until you find it!

Luckily, Enzoani lets stores borrow certain gowns from their warehouse for brides to try on. Stores can request for a "loaner" gown from Enzoani to be shipped to the store for the bride to try on, and voilà! Your dream is now a reality."

Is this store right for you?

Karly: "Another thing to vet -- that you may not have thought about -- is actually the store itself. Some stores do specialize in certain aesthetics more than others.

There are some stores that focus solely on all sparkle, ball gowns, over-the-top styles; that’s more their bride and who they are seeing. [If] you haven’t done your due diligence and you’re looking for something a little bit more bohemian or light, and then stop by the store only to find that they only have stuff that’s only sparkly, that’s going to be a bummer.

The best thing that you can do to make sure this doesn’t happen is going to the websites of the stores you're considering, and they should have a designer list on there where you can kind of see the aesthetics and styles of the designers that they’re carrying. It’ll give you a better idea of what they have in store."

Ah, yes, the budget...

Karly: "Like with your wedding, you want a budget for your gown too. You'll want to have a mindset of your max budget and being vocal about where the cut-off is. Stores will carry different designers and will have different price ranges. You'll want to call ahead and inquire about how much their gowns are. Set your budget and make sure to tell your consultant.

Have a gown in mind? Don't forget as you're looking for your dream gown, inquire about pricing about those gowns you've been eyeing. Even try asking during that initial phone call if they have similar options to the one you're looking for. This can be asked during the appointment too!"

Can I (or should I) bring guests to my appointment?

Karly: "Okay, so after researching and what seemed like endless phone calls -- you’ve made the appointment. The date for the appointment is set, and now the question is, who do you bring with you?

At this time, stores will most likely have restrictions on the number of guests you may bring. You may want to double check how many people you can bring with you. It would be disappointing to have someone wait outside while all the fun is happening inside. Additionally, ask if maybe you can FaceTime or Zoom during your appointment so if some people can't make it, they'll still get to feel special and part of the process."

What should I wear to my appointment?

A Bra:

Karly: "Honestly, it’s up to you. You can do sticky bra, you could do strapless bra or no bra. Whatever makes you the most comfortable. Most bridal gowns come with sewn-in cups, so you might even be taking off your bra at some point."

Shoes:

"Some stores do have shoes that you can borrow and try on, while some stores don’t. Again, call ahead to double check, but if you have a pair of shoes that you know you will wear on your wedding day, or even a height you would like, bring those. The sample gowns you will be trying on will be really long. Wearing shoes gives you a better visual of what the dress is going to look like when it’s actually hemmed to your height."

Underwear:

"Please do wear underwear for your appointment! Some gowns might be a little more see-through than others; while not required, we recommend something of a nude shade of underwear. If you want to wear Spanx, that's fine too."

A Mask:

"Many stores are having guests wear face masks while in their store. Please do respect and follow their protocols."
